KPAP 's MISSION
Our
goal is to improve the working conditions of the porters on Kilimanjaro.

The
Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) is an initiative of the
International Mountain
Explorers Connection, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based out
of Boulder, Colorado in the United States.

KPAP
was registered in January 2003 as a Tanzanian NGO (non-governmental
organization).

We
are improving the porter conditions in a few ways:
  |
Lending donated clothing to porters at no charge for their climbs.
 |
  |
Providing classes for
porters in English, first aid, HIV/AIDS awareness, and money
management.
 |
  |
Educating climbers on the
porters' conditions.

How is the
Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) Different from a Porters'
Union?

There
are various groups in Tanzania who claim to work "on behalf" of porters.
The following Unions and Associations are easily confused with the
Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project:

-
Kilimanjaro Porters Association

-
Kilimanjaro Guides & Porters Union

-
Mount Kilimanjaro Porters Society

The Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project is a legally registered NGO.
KPAP is not a porter membership organization, or a tour operating
business, and we do not collect fees from porters. We exist SOLELY for
the purpose of improving the working conditions of the porters climbing
Mount Kilimanjaro through the programs outlined above.

We highly recommend that you
follow our
guidelines when considering any tour operator associated with a union.
